Peconic Bay by Julia M. Wickham
Art
Auction to Benefit Southold Historical Society
set for April 30th 2011
SOUTHOLD, NY. The annual art auction, featuring
the works of both living and past artists of eastern
Long Island, is being sponsored by the Southold
Historical Society. The auction, which will take place
on Saturday, April 30th, 2011, will feature works by a
number of important local painters, photographers, and
artisans. The event will benefit both the Society as
well as many of the living artists participating in the
event.
In addition to works by living artists, which will
include John Crimmins, Jada Rowland, Lee Cleary, and
Karen Rich, there will be a number of works by painters
of our recent past. Some of the featured items include a
tonalist landscape by Whitney M. Hubbard and a view
showing the Orient yacht Club by Wallace Hukill. Other
painters who will be represented in this category also
include Mattituck artist Caroline Bell and Julia Wickham.
"In difficult economic times like we are seeing now, it
is important to find ways to support the artists in our
community - who are often hit the hardest under these
circumstances," stated Geoffrey Fleming, Director of the
Society. "The Society is very proud that half of all the
money raised at this event will go to support the
participating artists," he continued.
The location of the event, the Castello di Borghese
Vineyard, is one of the oldest and most important of the
wineries located on the North Fork. Set amidst the
vines, the vineyard's tasting room and large recption
area are the perect spot for an auction. "We are
delighted to have the support of the vineyard and its
owners, Prince Marco and Princess Ann Marie Borghese,"
continued Fleming.
The preview will begin at 4:30 pm, with the auction
beginning at 6pm. There is a $10 entry donation, which
includes wine and hors d'oeuvres. This inexpensive fee
will allow those in attendance to spend the rest of
their hard earned money on a beautiful artwork for their
home or office.
