PRESS RELEASE

Some of the Lots in our Upcoming
Auction!
Art Auction to Benefit
Historical Society
set for April 24th
2010
SOUTHOLD, NY. A special art
auction, featuring the works of both living and past
artists of eastern Long Island, is being sponsored by
the Southold Historical Society. The auction, which
will take place on Saturday, April 24th, 2010,
will feature works by a number of important local
painters, photographers, and artisans. The event will
benefit both the Society as well as many of the living
artists participating in the event.
In addition to works by living
artists, which will include Thomas Monaster, Bob Day, and
Glenn Smith, there will be a number of works by painters
of our recent past. Some of the featured items include
a hilly landscape by Whitney M. Hubbard and a vew near
Orient by George Hallock. Other painters who will be represented in
this category also include Mattituck artist Caroline
Bell and Teresa Shaw.
"In hard economic times like we
are seeing now, it is important to find ways to support
the artists in our community - who are often hit the
hardest under these circumstances," stated Geoffrey
Fleming, Director of the Society. "The Society is very
proud that half of all the money raised at this event
will go to support the participating artists," he
continued.
The location of the event, the
Clovis Point Winery in Jamesport, is one of the more
recent additions to the North Fork vineyard scene.
Set amidst the vines, the vineyard's main tasting room
is a barn converted for that use. "We are
delighted to have Clovis Point's support for this
event," continued Fleming.
The preview will begin at 4:30
pm, with the auction beginning at 6pm. There
is a $10 entry donation, which includes wine and hors
d'oeuvres. This inexpensive fee will allow those in
attendance to spend the rest of their hard earned money
on a beautiful artwork for their home or office.
