"Water Poodles" to be performed at Horton Point Lighthouse
SOUTHOLD, NY. The Southold
Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Edgar
Cortes Dance Theater will perform at the Horton Point
Lighthouse on SATURDAY, JULY 17, 2010 at 6pm.
They will perform a work entitled
"WATER POODLES," a modern dance piece inspired by
the 1950s and the work of the star Esther Williams and
synchronized swimming.
Edgar Cortes was born in Portugal
where he graduated from the School of Dance of the
National Conservatory. In 1995 he was awarded a
scholarship to the Martha Graham School of Contemporary
Dance in New York City where he graduated from the
Trainee Program and also worked with the Martha Graham
Dance Ensemble where he performed leading and solo
roles.
In New York City Cortes has worked
with Pearl Lang Dance Theater, Sophie Maslow, Jeanette
Hemstad, Analysis Dance Company, Chen & Dancers, Nai-Ni
Chen Dance Company, Ralf Jaroesenski, Sensedance, Mark
Dendy among many other independent choreographers; and
has toured extensively for six years with Les Ballets
Trockadero de Monte Carlo ( U.S.A., Japan, Australia,
Europe, Canada, South America, Central America).
The performance will take place on
the grounds of the Horton Point Lighthouse, located at
the end of Lighthouse Road in Southold. If there
is inclement weather, the performance will be moved to
Peconic Landing in Greenport.
Tickets are $15 for adults,
children under the age of 12 are FREE. Tickets may be
purchased at the Lighthouse the day of the performance.
