January 28     Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting will take place at 5pm on January 28th, 2008 at Founder's Landing on Hobart Lane, Southold.

March  1     Winter Exhibition "Virtu" Opens

The Society's winter exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, March 1st, 2008.  The show, entitled "Virtu" features rarely seen finely crafted objects from the Society's collection, including miniatures, jewelry, and fine silver.  Located in the Ann Currie-Bell House, the show will be open Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4pm through May 3rd, 2008.

March     Treasure Exchange Opens

The Society's antiques and collectibles consignment shop (for more info. click HERE) opens to the public in March at the Society's Prince Building.  Come and hunt for that elusive salt shaker, or that finely crafted piece of pottery or jewelry.  Join us at the only Antiques and Collectibles consignment shop on the North Fork!  In March the exchange will only be open on Saturday, 11-3.  First consignments will be received April 1st, 2008.  From April on the exchange is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm.  Consignments are welcomed on each Tuesday.

March 11     Potluck Supper

Join at 6:30 pm at the Presbyterian Hall on Main Road in Southold for a fine evening of homemade food and wonderfully crafted desserts.  The evening will include musical entertainment.

April 23     April Showers Dinner

Join us this afternoon and evening for the Society's annual dinner at the Soundview Inn on the Sound.  There will be a fifty-fifty cash raffle as part of the festivities.  The dinner has seating available from the late afternoon until the early evening.  Tickets are $18 per person and includes salad, main course, coffee or tea, and dessert.

May 4     Founder's Tea & the Vanderbilt Cup Races

On Sunday, May 4th, at 3pm the Society will host the annual Founder's Tea at the Ann Currie-Bell House on Main Road and Maple Lane in Southold.  A fine selection of food and drink will be available as we listen to Long Island historian Howard Kroplick discuss the famous Vanderbilt Cup Automobile Races.  These exciting and dangerous races were the first international automobile road races held in the United States, drawing huge crowds from 25,000 to over 250,000 spectators!

May 12-20     Step Back in History Week

Children from all over the North Fork come to the Historical Society for a series of educational (and fun!) activities.  Over 1,000 children will attend this series again where they will learn about daily life in the past..

May 17-18     Long Island Lighthouse Challenge at Horton Point Lighthouse

A cooperative effort of Long Island's historic lighthouse preservation and education groups - try and visit all the lighthouses in just two days!  Including the Montauk Historical Society, Montauk Point Lighthouse and Museum, Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society, Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society, The Long Island Chapter of the US Lighthouse Society, East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation, Southold Historical Society, and Horton Point Lighthouse and Nautical Museum.  Horton Point will be open 8 am - 6 pm.

May 24     Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse Opens

Visit our most popular attraction, the Horton Point Lighthouse that was originally laid out by George Washington.  Marvel at the Nautical and Maritime artifacts.  The Lighthouse is open Saturday and Sunday, 11:30 am - 4pm.  For Memorial Day Weekend the Lighthouse will be open Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (5/24-5/26).

June 14     Society Garage Sale

The Southold Historical Society will hold a garage sale on the front porch of the Prince Building on Main Road on June 16th.  The sale will include material donated by various Society members to benefit our programs and activities.  Watch the papers for times!

June 28     Summer Exhibition "Crafted in the Country" Opens

The Society's summer exhibition, "Crafted in the Country:  North Fork Artisans & Objects," will focus on the great American craftspeople of the North Fork.  Baskets, embroidery, pottery, jewelry, and many others items will be featured as part of this down home celebration.  The exhibition will take place in the Ann Currie-Bell House and will be open Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4 pm and will run through August 31, 2008.

June 28     Maple Lane Complex opens to the Public

Bring out the family and enjoy a tour of our grounds, including the Ann Currie-Bell House, Thomas Moore House, Pine Neck Barn and many other buildings. Open Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday 1-4pm. Admission fee.

July 7-11     Summer Morning Workshops

The Society is pleased again to offer its popular series of workshops for children entering grades, 4, 5, & 6.  All will take place at the Museum’s Maple Lane complex.  Workshops begin at 9 am and conclude promptly at noon and a simple snack will be offered.  Enrollment is limited and registration must be completed by TBA.  The fee is $15 per workshop.  Call 765-5500 for further information.

July 26     Concert at the Horton Point Lighthouse

Bring family and friends up to the beautiful Horton Point Lighthouse for a late afternoon concert from 4-6 pm.  The Banjo Rascals will perform from 4-6pm.  Tickets are $10 for adults, children are free.  Rain location will be the Presbyterian Church on Main Road in Southold.

August 2      Annual Ice Cream Social (Rain date Aug. 3)

The annual ice cream social will take place on Saturday, August 2nd from 1-4pm.  Come and enjoy amazing  ice cream, hayrides, children’s games, tours, face painting, live music, the Peppercorn Ceremony, and other great activities.  Admission is free, but tickets need to be purchased on-site for ice cream and for activities.

August 23   Summer Gala and Book Signing

In honor of the release of our new book on the artists of the North Fork (click here for more information on the book) the Society will be hosting a fabulous event at a private waterfront estate in Peconic from 6-9pm.  Books will be signed at the event that evening.  Joining us for fine food, music, and views stretching out into Peconic Bay.  Watch for further details!

November 28    Annual Candlelight Holiday Tour

The Southold Historical Society will host its annual Candlelight Tour at the Museum grounds on the Main Road opposite the Firehouse on Friday November 28, 2008 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. All buildings will be decorated for the holiday season and open to the public. Farm and home craft demonstrations will take place in the various buildings, strolling musicians will be on the grounds, Santa will be visiting, and refreshments will be served. The annual tree lighting at 5:00 p.m. will be accompanied by caroling led by the Southold High School Chorus Ensemble. No admission charge, donations accepted.

December    7    Holiday Tea

Join us at 3pm for the Annual Holiday Tea.  Food, fine wine, tea, and a special presentation will round out the afternoon.

December 23 - January 1     Society Office Closed for the Holidays
