PRESS RELEASE
“SOUTHOLD
HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL ICE CREAM SOCIAL APPROACHES!”
SOUTHOLD, NY. The sound of chocolate syrup
dribbling down scoops of fresh Hershey Ice Cream is once again in the air
as the Southold Historical Society plans their annul Ice Cream Social, which
will take place on Saturday, August 5th, 2006 from 1-4 pm.
The Social will occur at the Society’s Maple Lane Museum Complex, located on the
corner of Main Road and Maple Lane, opposite the Southold Firehouse.
“The Ice Cream Social is a very popular event that is
looked forward to by every child in the community, “ stated Geoffrey
Fleming, the Society Director. Each year hundreds of scoops of ice cream are
sold at the event. The ice cream, largely from the famous Hershey
company, is supplied by the Country Corner Cafe, located on Main Road in
Southold. “It is absolutely wonderful to have the support of a business like
the Country Corner Cafe, it means a lot to the Society,” Fleming stated
further.
Also included in the days activities will be tours
of the many historic buildings at the site, including the Pine Neck Barn and
Thomas Moore House. Children’s games, face painting, hay rides,
live music, and other demonstrations will be part of the day’s
activities.
The hay ride is especially fun as a period tractor
will be pulling the massive wooden hay cart. The ride takes visitors down Maple
Lane and sometimes on the grounds of the Joost-Todd estate. It is rare
opportunity to see the giant old-growth trees which dot the beautiful waterfront
property.
Grill cooked hotdogs, soda, lemonade, and specially made
baked goods will also be available. Entrance to the Social is free, but food
and games require tickets that may be purchased on the site all day long.
RAIN DATE: Aug. 6, 2006
