Children at the Schoolhouse for a Program,
1990's
Educational Programs
More than than 1100 Southold students participate each year in The Society's
educational programs. They are held at numerous locations, including the
Society's Maple Lane complex, the Horton Point Lighthouse Nautical Museum, and
the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Step Back in History Week
This series, entering its 15th year, focuses on acquainting the youth of
Southold with the area's rich historic background. Original artifacts and
buildings owned by the Society are used to familiarize youngsters with the past
and foster an interest in their preservation.
The Summer Morning Workshops
During these programs, held during the summer, Southold's youth learn about
the hand crafts of the past, including weaving, flower pressing, carpentry,
scrimshaw, wreath making, rug hooking, basket weaving, colonial cooking, and
quilting.
