Historical Society Enters Web Arena
Southold Historical sets up its first Website
March 20, 2003 -- The Southold Historical Society announces
the establishment of its first website. The site, located at
www.southoldhistoricalsociety.org, had been in the planning stages for some
time, and will begin a new period of development for the Society.
The new site will host all of the necessary contact information needed to get
in contact with the Society, including phone and fax numbers, email addresses,
and mailing and shipping locations. "The site will make our various
offerings available not only to locals, but to audiences worldwide," stated
Geoffrey Fleming, the Director of the Society.
Founded in 1960, the Society entertains research requests that come from all
over the country. While most are questions about lineage and ancestry,
others have covered topics ranging from the history of a local jetty and
questions about artists who worked on the north fork.
"What is especially exciting is we now have the capability to receive
research requests from around the country, and the world, electronically," said
Fleming, "it creates a great opportunity for researchers who are too distant
from Southold to make first-hand-use of our incredible resources."
Though the Society's website will be small to begin with, there are plans to
expand it over time as visitation to the site picks up.
