PRESS RELEASE
“SOUTHOLD HISTORICAL
SOCIETY ANNUAL ICE CREAM SOCIAL TO TAKE PLACE AUGUST
6th!”
SOUTHOLD, NY. The sound
of chocolate syrup dribbling down scoops of fresh
Hershey Ice Cream is once again in the air as
the Southold Historical Society plans their annual
Ice Cream Social, which will take place on
Saturday, August 6th, 2011 from 1-4 pm. The
Social will occur at the Society’s Maple Lane Museum
Complex, located on the corner of Main Road and
Maple Lane, opposite the Southold Firehouse.
“The Ice Cream Social is a
very popular event that is looked forward to by
every child in the community, “ stated Geoffrey
Fleming, the Society Director. Each year hundreds
and hundreds of scoops of ice cream are sold at the event. Grill cooked hotdogs, soda,
and lemonade will also be available. A special
feature this year will be the famous "Cupcake
Truck," which travels all over the east end and
specializes in amazing treats.
Included in the days activities
will be tours of the many historic buildings
at the site, including the Pine Neck Barn and Thomas
Moore House. Children’s games, face
painting, live music,
and other demonstrations will be part of the day’s
activities. The summer exhibition -
"Twenty-Five Years of Embroidery" - will be on
display in the Mayne Gallery of the Ann Currie-Bell
House.
Jamie Davis, who is best known
for his large scale pirate performances at historic
sites and fairs across Long Island, will be in
charge of coordinating many of the children's
activities, including races and the tug-of-war.
His "Maritime Pirates" troupe has appeared on a
number of occasions during the summer in Greenport
and has also been featured in the Sag Harbor
Maritime Festival and at the Sag Harbor Whaling
Museum’s Pirate Day.
Entrance to the grounds is
free, but food and games require tickets that may be
purchased on the site all day long.
