Position Description: Marketing, Promotions, & Tourism Liaison

Hours: Part-Time, 18-20 hours per week
Salary: Rate of pay will be dependent on experience.

Background. Building on existing innovative programming, the Society seeks to raise national and international visibility of Southold Town’s historical significance as the Oldest English Settlement in New York. Southold Historical Society maintains a Museum Complex on Maple Lane and Main Road (NYS Route 25) with restored historic buildings providing a picturesque “Town Square” experience with insight into early American life. Just as New York families and school children enjoy a trip to Philadelphia, Washington DC, or Mystic CT, the Society will serve as a magnet for tourist visits and school trips from neighboring states to explore Long Island as a day trip or overnight stay.


The Society seeks a Part-Time Marketing, Promotions, & Tourism Liaison to develop tours and programs to market to out of state markets (international, out of state) tourists as well as enhance marketing and raise visibility of Southold to local residents and tourists. Marketing, Promotions, & Tourism Liaison will work with Executive Director, Board members, and existing staff to develop tours, curriculum and programming to attract visitors from out of state.


  • Raise national and international visibility of Southold Historical Society and historical significance of Southold Town’s Heritage as the Oldest English Settlement in New York.

  • Develop Tours and Promotions to attract out of state visitors to the Society Buildings and Grounds through tour groups, individual visitors and school groups.

  • Develop revenue from services and sale of merchandise to visitors to grow and provide sustainable revenue for our public programming.


The Marketing, Promotions, & Tourism Liaison position requires a unique skill set and network of contacts. We will focus on potential job applicants who:

  • Marketing, promotions background

  • Social Media expert

  • Prior Tourism promotions experience

  • Desirable: prior tour package development

  • Prefer graphic arts skills

  • Agencies, tours, concierge services

  • Have prior experience working with and contacts to Tourism Promotion

  • Has a passion for History, Culture and non-profit work

  • Works independently, positive, works well with others
