Unicorn Dance Performance at Lighthouse!

July 2, 2009

"Hunt of the Unicorns Dance to be performed at Horton Point Lighthouse"

SOUTHOLD, NY. The Southold Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Edgar Cortes Dance Theater will perform at the Horton Point Lighthouse on SATURDAY, JULY 18, 2009 at 7pm.

They will perform a work entitled "UNICORNIUS", a modern dance piece inspired by the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's museum of medieval art, The Cloisters.

Edgar Cortes was born in Portugal where he graduated from the School of Dance of the National Conservatory. In 1995 he was awarded a scholarship to the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York City where he graduated from the Trainee Program and also worked with the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble where he performed leading and solo roles.

In New York City Cortes has worked with Pearl Lang Dance Theater, Sophie Maslow, Jeanette Hemstad, Analysis Dance Company, Chen & Dancers, Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, Ralf Jaroesenski, Sensedance, Mark Dendy among many other independent choreographers; and has toured extensively for six years with Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo ( U.S.A., Japan, Australia, Europe, Canada, South America, Central America).

The performance will take place on the grounds of the Horton Point Lighthouse, located at the end of Lighthouse Road in Southold. If there is inclement weather, the performance will be moved to the Auditorium of the Southold High School, located on Oaklawn Avenue in Southold.

Tickets are $15 for adults, children under the age of 12 are FREE. Tickets may be purchased at the Lighthouse the day of the performance.
