Hurricane Gloria by Rose Anasagasti
I remember I was a college student at Hofstra University and when i learned of the impending storm I decided to go home because i was scared and thought I would be safer with my family in Peconic. I thought the tall dormitories, the Towers that I lived in, were going to topple. Boy was that a stupid idea! We did not have electricity in Peconic for at least a week and a huge tree fell in our driveway and blocked our exit. My father and brother had to cut it with a two man saw, into logs small enough so that they could remove them themselves. Then when we finally could get a car out, I remember Wayside Market being one of the only places that was making food via generator. We definitely enjoyed those egg sandwiches. What I didn't realize was that Hofstra had power and water and phone and everything else, and when I found out, I realized I had made a bad decision.
