SOUTHOLD, NY. The Southold Historical Society is pleased to announce that the 1st annual SUMMER SOIREE, a musical gala, will take place from 6:00-9:30 pm on August 14th, 2004. The event will take place at Galluccio Family Wineries located on Main Road in Cutchogue.
The first gala to be thrown by the Society, the Soiree will feature several noted musicians and musical groups in addition to a Chinese auction and automobile raffle. “It should be a very exciting and entertaining evening,” stated Geoffrey Fleming, Director of the Society.
A special bonus will be an open bar and the fabulous and amazing hors d’oeuvres of the Antares Café of Greenport. The food from Antares Café is well known all over the region, with one reviewer stating “In Antares' you can sample knock-out contemporary cooking.” Antares Café was voted best new restaurant by "Dan's Paper" in 2000.
Featured musicians will include noted Blues artist Beki Brindle. Ms. Brindle has a long association with the world of music, and has worked with rock luminaries including Jerry Lee Lewis, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, John Sebastian, and others. During a year-long tour in Dublin, Ireland she was commissioned by Bono of U2 to run a blues workshop at a middle school (the show was called "Jo Maxi") focusing on the blues. The show was a huge success and later ran in Ireland, Italy, and Sweden. Her album, Windopane, topped the Italian College music charts as "Album of the Year" in 1995. Joining her will be her husband, musician Ralph Scala, one of the founders of the well known music group, the Blues Magoos. The Blues Magoos date back to the 1960’s and have issued no less than 10 hit singles and five albums.
In addition to Beki Brindle, local singer, songwriter, and artist Jessie Haynes will join the evenings festivities. Haynes, who was born on Long Island, has had her songs featured on such American television favorites as "Friends," "Access Hollywood," "America's Most Wanted," & on "Nickelodeon.” For the summer of 2000 she was selected to manage the musical production of young new acts for Famous Artists Management in Manhattan. She recently released her first CD, "Radio Wav's,” which includes tracks in the Pop, Rock, Dance, Ballad & Soundtrack genres. Haynes is an active part of her local music scene as well, hosting Musicians Showcases, frequenting jam nights & performing with her new band, Cowgirl Ecstasy.
Rounding out the evening will be dance music performed by Sunnyland Productions. The group, organized by musician Bob Barta, is known for performing classic jazz, especially of the 1920's and 30's, and has performed all over Long Island.
Though music is the over-arching theme, other activities will be included during the evening. One of these is a Chinese auction. The auction will include many donated items, including fine art, antiques, and other assorted items. Special t-shirts designed for the event will also be available.
There will also be an automobile raffle. Mullen Motors has generously provided a brand new 2004 Dodge Neon SXT for the raffle. The car, which comes with many desirable features, including air conditioning, power windows, CD/radio, aluminum wheels, and more can be viewed at the Mullen Motors lot in Southold. The successful winner can take the car as is, or trade it in towards any other model that Mullen carries. Only 500 tickets will be sold for a chance to win this great vehicle.
