SOUTHOLD, NY. The Southold Historical Society is pleased to announce that it has hired a new director after several months of extensive searches and interviews. Effective September 21, 2015, Karen Lund-Rooney, a long time Southold resident, has assumed the role of Director and report directly to the President of the Southold Historical Society, Herb Adler, Jr.
Ms. Lund-Rooney most recently held the position of Interim Director at the Oysterponds Historical Society. Prior to this role, she had a long and noteworthy career as an educator and school administrator on Long Island. Her professional credits include Headmaster of the Grace Day School in Massapequa and Assistant Principal for the Garden City Public School District.
Ms. Lund-Rooney has always had a passion for history and historic homes. In 1999, she purchased a eighteenth century home in Southold which she and her husband, John Rooney, have been working to restore.
As Director, Ms. Lund-Rooney will be responsible for the day to day operations and activities of the Southold Historical Society. She will oversee events, fundraising, professional and volunteer staff, exhibitions, as well as preserving the Society’s vast collections of historic artifacts and buildings.
